About these homes

One-bedroom stays in Puerto Rico

For two people, a one-bedroom in the right street beats a bigger place in the wrong one. These are the homes where the money went into location and finish rather than square footage — colonial lofts inside the walled city, studios a few minutes from Ocean Park, apartments with a balcony over a street worth sitting above.

Most sleep up to four with a sofa bed, which makes them workable for a small family as well as a couple. The bed layout on each property page says exactly what is where.

Worth knowing: Old San Juan buildings are old and most have no lift. If stairs are an issue, say so and we will point you at the ground-floor homes.

What to know

What comes with a one-bedroom rental in Puerto Rico?

A one-bedroom on RentInPR has one bedroom, a kitchen and a bathroom, and many add a sofa bed or a second bed in the living area. How private the bedroom is varies: some are a separate room with a door, some put the bed on a loft level open to the room below, and the studios keep it in the main room.

Sofa beds and a third or fourth guest

Sofa beds are where these homes differ most. Several listings describe theirs as small, suited to a single adult or two kids, while others are full-size or king-size pull-outs meant for two adults, and Soho Garden uses an air mattress instead. If a third or fourth adult is coming, read the bed layout and the home's own description together before you book.

Street life and noise

The old-city one-bedrooms put you among the bars, and their listings are candid about it. 3B Imperial warns that music and street noise near La Factoría can run late into the night, through old walls and windows that were never soundproofed; El Balcón mentions church bells and weekend street noise. Quiet hours inside these buildings start as early as 9 p.m. For quieter nights, the Santurce studios on residential streets are the other option.

Elevators, parking and laundry

Outside the old city, several one-bedrooms are in elevator buildings. Condado Penthouse is on the eighth floor, reached by an elevator that needs a security fob, and Casa Celeste and Luxe Beachside Oasis, both near Ocean Park Beach, have an elevator, a pool, a backup generator and coin-operated laundry on the ground floor. Casa Valencia, in the old city, has its own washer and dryer.

Parking follows the same split. Most old-city one-bedrooms have none of their own, and their listings lean on walking instead; free parking comes with Condado Penthouse at ground level, Casa Celeste and Luxe Beachside Oasis, the apartments near Distrito T-Mobile, and Sora near the airport, which has a covered space beside its porch.

Excellent location and beautiful view of the Condado bay. We swim there all the time and it’s right across the street. Everything was clean and perfect.
