Beach rentals a short walk from the sand

Can you walk to the beach from these rentals?

Yes. The walk on each card goes to the nearest named public beach, which is not always the beach in a home's name; a home listed on its own description says so on its card instead. Where that beach has no lifeguards, the next answer names the balnearios that do.

The details are in the homes' own descriptions. In Dorado the villas sit inside a gated beachfront community whose beach is for residents and their guests, through a gate a couple of minutes' walk away. In Luquillo the walk runs from a tower door that opens onto the sand to under two minutes along Ocean Drive. Condado Penthouse's building backs onto Condado Lagoon: the path behind it leads to calm water for a kayak or paddleboard, not to sand, with Condado Beach a few steps on.

Lifeguarded public beaches by area

Lifeguards work at the balnearios, the public beaches run by the government or the town. El Escambrón, across the Dos Hermanos Bridge from Condado, is the one for Condado, and its beach wheelchair is watched by a lifeguard. Isla Verde has Balneario de Carolina, where the municipality lists lifeguards, showers and a first-aid station. Ocean Park lies between those two. Luquillo's is Balneario La Monserrate, run by the Department of Natural and Environmental Resources, where the Mar sin Barreras area has a ramp toward the sea and amphibious chairs; Dorado's own is Balneario Manuel "Nolo" Morales, another state-run beach with lifeguard posts.

Check the rip current risk before you swim

The National Weather Service office in San Juan issues a surf zone forecast that rates the rip current risk low, moderate or high for each stretch of coast: San Juan and Vicinity covers the beaches of San Juan and Carolina, Northeast PR covers Luquillo, and North Central PR covers Dorado. At moderate, the Weather Service says life-threatening rip currents are possible in the surf zone; at high, they are likely. On those days, swim at a balneario with lifeguards on duty, or use the pool, which several of these buildings have.
