Guides to Puerto Rico, from people who host here
18 guides to the island — where the good beaches are, how to get into El Yunque, when a bioluminescent bay is worth the drive, and what a week here actually costs.
About these guides
We have been renting homes in Puerto Rico since 2015, which means we answer the same questions every week: which beach is calm enough for a four-year-old, whether you need a car, why the rainforest wants a reservation, and how to see a bioluminescent bay properly.
These guides are the long version of those answers. They are written around real places — the balnearios with lifeguards, the roads that get you there, the kiosks worth stopping at — and deliberately not around numbers we cannot stand behind. Tour prices change, restaurants close, and a guide full of invented figures is worse than one that tells you what to ask.
Start with the trip you are planning rather than the newest thing published: the groups below run from the practical questions through to the parts of the island most people wish they had given more time.
